Skin Care Product of the Month: Retivance by Suzan Obagi MD

Retinal, or Retinaldehyde is the strongest over- the -counter form of retinoid available on the market. Retinoids are products derived from Vitamin A that cause faster skin cell turnover and trigger the production of new skin cells. Retinaldehyde, is ten times stronger and faster than the commonly used retinol, this powerhouse tool for skin anti-aging can:
• Enhance collagen production
• Reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
• Improve skin texture and tone
• Increase brightness and radiance
• Refine and unclog pores
• Reduce pigmentation

Everyone’s skin is different and there are some people who get some redness and sun sensitivity with the use of Retinaldehyde. However, most people, even those with sensitive skin and Rosacea (like me), tolerate Retinaldehyde products more readily than other Retinoids with little-to-no downtime.
My absolute favorite product containing Retinaldehyde is Suzan Obagi MD’s Retivance. It has a silky feel to it and goes on smoothly. This product contains the Retinaldehyde, along with peptides and antioxidants that work together to enhance results and protect against free radicals, and Chamomile Extract (as an anti inflammatory) to soothe the skin. I have been using this treatment for about 6 months and can see quite the difference, especially in the sun damage and discoloration.
