As the owner (FNP-C) of a full-time Women’s Health Clinic, a med spa owner, author of a women’s health and beauty blog and website, wife, mother and grandmother and fur baby mom, I often find myself with little time for leisurely shopping for clothes and shoes. I imagine this is probably true for a lot of you as well. I love clothes and shoes, and I like to look and feel nice. It is easy to fall into doing everything online and don’t get me wrong, there is a place for shopping on large, relatively impersonal sites such as  Amazon or Temu, etc; But as I get older, and as I have been doing a lot of research for Art of Graceful Aging, I have found that there are many very high quality, ethical companies that focus on a lot of the things that are important to me and aligned with my particular values. I think it is very important to support businesses that have strong positive social messages and who are very concerned with being environmentally responsible and earth friendly. I want this world to be a good place for my grandchildren and their grandchildren, and I think we must work towards that now. I also like to work with companies that empower females.

Rothy’s is a company that I have been very impressed with. This company uses recycled plastic from landfills in its signature threads to make shoes and bags. Over 225,794,969+ recycled plastic bottles are not in landfills because of Rothy’s.  Their factory is proudly LEED and TRUE Zero-Waste Certified. I did not know what that meant until I started researching. LEED Gold Certification means that a company has achieved a high level of environmental sustainability. TRUE Zero-Waste Certified means that the company has achieved at least 90% of solid, non-hazardous waste from landfills and incineration through reduction, reuse, recycling and composting (Total Resource Use and Efficiency). The Merino Wool that they use in their products is RWS certified, which means that the farmers that they work with have rigorous standards concerning animal welfare, land management and social responsibility throughout the entire wool supply chain. Rothy’s also uses Hemp and other plant based sustainable materials in their products. Natural Hemp is found in some of the oldest based textiles in the world but is still one of the important materials of the future because of its potential for removing carbon from the air and restoring soil health. In addition, Rothy’s attention to sustainability and ecology also extends to its shipping practices. Boxes are made from recycled materials which are very sturdy, negating the need for more external boxes. Finally, Rothy’s is working towards a closed loop production cycle. You can take your shoes back to a Rothy’s store to be recycled and receive a $20 credit.

All the attention to sustainability is of the utmost importance but there also has to be quality and appealing products to go with it. I never recommend any products that I have not tried myself and believe you me I LOVE my Rothy’s.

Every pair of Rothy’s shoes that I own are super comfortable, cute, stylish and durable. My current favorite pair is the original slip-on sneaker in black that I wear to work all the time. This one goes with everything and is oh-so comfortable!
